Story
Pre-auction show of the Russian branch of Sotheby’s, timed to coincide with the autumn auction of 2017. The exhibition showcased over 30 works created by a diverse group of artists. Among the highlighted pieces was a portrait of Nadezhda Sapozhnikova, a student and muse of the painter Nikolai Feshin, as well as paintings by Alexandra Exter from the collection of a friend, who found refuge with the artist during the Nazi occupation in World War II.
A special subject of the exhibition is the art of the Soviet Union. Among the works from this period, the canvases of the present-day maestros: Tair Salakhov, Grisha Bruskin and Semyon Faibisovich stand out for their atmosphere.
«In the portrait of Nadezhda Sapozhnikova, artist Feshin demonstrated mastery of a unique, individual painting technique, which combined the techniques of academic painting in terms of glazing (application of translucent layers of paint) and decorative-avant-garde technique in painting the dress and background of the depicted model»
